The doctrine of original sin is the belief that all humans are born as sinners.
Romans 5:12 says, "Just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned."
This means that when Adam sinned it meant we all sinned. Why? Because the idea is that we would have done just what Adam and Eve did if we were in their place. Therefore we are all now born with a sin nature. We are guilty until proven innocent. Until we put our faith in Jesus and believe he paid the price for us to get to heaven, we are destined to hell from birth. It's a hard truth but it is the truth.
I know there is such a thing as an age of accountability though. King David's baby died but a prophet assured him that his baby was in heaven. So babies automatically go to heaven if they die.
Most say the age of accountability is around 7. The Bible doesn't actually say what the age is though. I would think it's more like 4 or 5. When a child can understand what you are telling them about the salvation story and Jesus, they could then make a decision about if they want to believe or not.
Davis says in Psalm 51:5, "Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity, and in sin did my mother conceive me." This means that he was born a sinner. He was in sin the moment he was born.
I'm not trying to say babies aren't precious. They are very cute and sweet, when they are sleeping lol. But when they are awake, every mother knows that babies and toddlers are full of greed and anger. Why else do they cry and scream until they get milk? They only think about themselves, which is fine because they are a baby. But the fact is, they only think about themselves. They don't care if you are tired, they want what they want and they want it now.
The point is, they do not come out of the womb being capable of any of the fruit of the spirit. Newborn babies have very little joy or peace. They usually don't laugh at all until about 6 months. They don't seem to be able to show you, the parent, love back until after age 1 or so.
So all that to say, babies are not born saved; they are born sinners. That is what the Bible says and it can be seen in how they are and act.
But we all do think babies are precious because God gives us that innate sense of love for them so that we will care for them. Women who just had a baby have almost a high of falling in love with their own baby. And thank God for that, because motherhood, especially at first, is all about serving while getting nothing in return. But that's ok, because later on they might pay you back by changing your diapers when you're 90 lol.
May God bless you all ;)
