I have always thought the fact that Catholics started praying to Mary seemed so odd.
But I read once, the reason was, because they felt God the Father was such a stern, cold like figure, so they thought praying to Mary would be easier. I suppose whoever invented this had a stern, cold father in real life. :) So the Catholic church started praying to Mary.
But no where in the Bible does it ever say it's ok to pray to Mary. She is just a human being like the rest of us. She probably cannot even hear people praying to her. She is frolicking in heaven somewhere, not giving the earth a second thought I'm sure lol :)
The ironic thing is that the Holy Spirit is generally thought of as the feminine aspect of God-head. Why? Because it is personified as a dove, which is a very tender, feminine looking creature.
In contrast, God is the "Lion of Judah." Jesus was the "Angel of the Lord" that often appeared to people in the Old Testament and they were afraid of him. But the Holy Spirit is more gentle, powerful, but gentle.
The Holy Spirit intercedes for us to the Father "with groaning that words cannot express."
The Holy Spirit is described as the Comforter, like a mother would be a comforter to her child. It is also said of the Spirit that it will lead us into all truth. Who instructs children? It is generally the mom, because the dad is working, or used to be out in the fields. Who teaches baby Christians and weans them off of milk and into greater truths? The Holy Spirit.
I have heard that sometimes guys may feel somewhat emasculated or gay in Christianity to think of loving Jesus since he is a male. But the Holy Spirit is more feminine-like. So perhaps that will help some guys not to feel gay when they think of loving God with their whole heart. lol :)
The Holy Spirit came with the new covenant of grace. Grace is more of a feminine quality.
Most think of the God of the Old Testament as mean and dictatorial and the God of the New Testament as softer and more loving. This is because of the introduction of the Holy Spirit who comes to make it's home inside of us.
The purpose of the Old Testament time was for God to show man that we couldn't do it on our own, we couldn't be holy on our own.
Now is when God pours out his love on us, because we are/were ready to receive it.
God is love, that is the only quality it says that he absolutely is.
Do you know how much God loves you? I hope so. He does, infinitely more than you can imagine.
Receive it. Grace and peace to you. :)
