There is only one command regarding drinking in the New Testament. A verse says, "Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but instead be filled with the Holy Spirit." Debauchery is extreme indulgence in worldly pleasures.
The question I have always asked myself is, where is the line of being drunk? Is it after one drink, two drinks? I have always believed one drink is ok. I feel God says it is ok for any person to have one drink with dinner every day, if they desire to do so. It can help to relax your mind and your body. It causes you to enjoy life more. It is not a sin to have one alcoholic drink every evening. It makes your sleep more sound. It increases your overall joy in this crazy life. It helps you to forget your stress a lot. However if you drink too much, you will regret it. Moderation is key with anything. If you eat too much, you will regret it. If you do anything excessively, you will feel guilt. That is the Holy Spirit trying to tell you that you messed up. That your life needs to be more self controlled. That you are loving the world too much. "If anyone loves the world" they are not a saved believer. This goes for anything in the world. Do you worship anything on this planet? Then God is not first in your life, and he is not pleased with you. What is your greatest love? It needs to be God. Not alcohol, not a human being, not sex, not drugs. Nothing should have your whole heart besides God. If you can drink alcohol without being in love with it, then you are doing ok. 😉
God loves you all!
