How to Be an Overcomer

There are several verses in Revelation where Jesus says "to him who overcomes" good things will happen. Here are some examples: "To the one who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne." "He who overcomes will inherit these things (the water of life), and I will be his God and he will be My son." Some don't realize it, but we are in the last days. The time that we have left is short. It is quite possible that Jesus could return in the next 5 to 10 years. However, before he returns, the anti-Christ will rise to power and the tribulation will begin. Rev. 14:12 says, "This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus." The trials of the tribulation call for "patient endurance" for the Christians. We will be here and we will need be able to overcome. Here are some tips to help you learn how to be an overcomer.

Steps

1. Refuse to ever stay down. Satan's number one goal is to get human beings in general depressed and to make Christians ineffective for the Kingdom of God.
Satan wants us to be rendered useless by the trials of life and the difficulties that he causes us to go through.

Don't ever say the words "I'm depressed" or "I'm struggling with depression." Don't struggle with depression; overcome depression! You are not a victim; you can be happy if you really want to be.

2. Learn how speak life and speak words of faith, rather than words of defeat. Don't talk about how you may feel now, talk about how you want to feel, and you will feel that way.
Don't accept defeat, force yourself to rise above whatever challenges you have. Be determined to overcome things, and you will. Stay positive and you will be able to overcome anything.
3. Learn to encourage yourself. Often times, people depend on others way too much to encourage them, but you need to learn how to encourage yourself. Be your own biggest fan.
Don't wait for other people to say that they like something that you did, tell yourself that it is good. God gave us an example for this when he created the world.

The Bible says over and over that God said to himself that it "was good." He approved of himself and his own work. He encouraged himself.

4. Stay productive and don't be lazy. Don't let a few set backs stop you from doing what you love. Accomplish your dreams, no matter what. Always keep yourself working.
To be an overcomer, you need to not be lazy. You have to have a great work ethic and a lot of self-discipline if you want be an overcomer.
5. Get support from others. You need to know how to encourage yourself, but it's also good to be supported by others when you can.
Find good people, in church preferably, that will lift you up and not tear you down. The Bible says that we should "help carry each other's burdens." The best way to overcome a burden you might have is to get help from others, whether it's something psychological, spiritual or physical.
6. Realize that hard times only make you stronger. As the saying goes "whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger." That really is very true. You learn to develop more of a tough skin.
The more hard times you go through, the less sensitive you are, and the less you are thrown off by hard things. You build your emotional muscle in a sense. You become better able to endure and overcome things. Amen.

Tips

Be prepared for anything and everything. Know that we live in a fallen world so the sky is the limit for what could happen. Try to be ready for it when it does happen.

Warnings

Don't be weak. Don't be a pushover. Be strong.
