I have written on this subject many times, partly because I get so frustrated by the arrogance of Christian people. You can't just assume you are good to go your whole life just because you said some magic prayer. You have to walk it out too. "Work out your salvation with fear and trembling."
I have always believed a person's salvation can be lost. Satan was kicked out of heaven, so it is not impossible for God to disqualify someone to get into heaven. There is a verse in Revelation that says, "The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life." My mom and I both asked this question about that, "Wait so someone's name can be blotted out?"
How is someone's name blotted out? How is someone disqualified for heaven? God says, "You are disqualified if you are cold hearted. If you can help someone else but you choose not to. If you have no love in your heart for others."
The most key verse on this is, "The love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." What else does wandered from the faith mean except that they lost their salvation?
The best explanation for all this is the parable of the seeds.
"When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in their heart. This is the seed sown along the path. The seed falling on rocky ground refers to someone who hears the word and at once receives it with joy. But since they have no root, they last only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, they quickly fall away. The seed falling among the thorns refers to someone who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke the word, making it unfruitful. But the seed falling on good soil refers to someone who hears the word and understands it. This is the one who produces a crop, yielding a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown.”
What does it mean to yield more crop? Saving more people. The first 3 seeds didn't save anyone. They couldn't even save themselves. I suppose then the true mark of a Christian is how many people have you saved? Do you even try?
Yes our salvation is by grace, but God still expects us to do his work too. "The harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few." God expects you to labor at least a little.
So go start working for God. You will be handsomely rewarded. :) Be blessed!
