Every day, 100 times a day, we have a choice to make if we will do something our own way or God's way. Our inclination is to do whatever is the most self-serving. To do anything that would weaken ourselves seems illogical, but God calls us to weaken ourselves sometimes, to show that he is strong in the midst of our weakness.
When Jesus was about to die, he prayed all night in a garden. He was in so much agony over his decision that he was sweating drops of blood. He asked God if he could possibly not die on the cross. "Please let this cup pass from me." God's response to Jesus that night was, "You have to. I'm sorry." At the end of the night of prayer Jesus said, "Let your will, and not my will, be done." That is what we all should say to God 100 times a day. His will being done is infinitely times more important then our will being done.
We all have to loose things in life, but if God asks us to give them up, all we can say is, "Your will, not my will be done. I will be obedient to you, because you always know best. Thank you for telling me what to do."
I think a lot of people choose to not "believe" in God because they don't want to serve him. They don't want to have to say that, "Not my will, but yours be done Lord." They want only their own will to be done. But the Bible says, "Lean not on your own understanding." "There is a way that seems right to a man but in the end it leads to death." You might think you know the best way, but only God knows the best way. Listen to Him.
God bless!
