Pot

 Personally I don't enjoy pot because it just makes you tired. I naturally feel tired almost all the time. That is why I love coffee. But in general, does God approve of people smoking pot?

Here are some Bible verses related to pot:

Romans 13:1

Let every person be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God.

This is the most important verse regarding pot. If it is illegal where you live, you probably shouldn't do it. You wouldn't go out and rob a gas station right? So why would you smoke pot if it's illegal? Even if you know you can get away with it, it is still not a good idea to do anything illegal, unless you think you might enjoy jail. :)

1 Peter 5:8 

Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.

If you are high, you are definitely not sober minded. Your mind pretty much flew out the window. You feel like a brainless zombie when high. Any creative thoughts cease and you are just there. You turn into an empty shell basically. It can be nice to feel an empty mind sometimes, if you can't turn your mind off, but don't make it a habit. Why? Because Satan and demons are all around you, whether you can see them or not. They are just waiting for you to have a weak moment so they can gain victory over your mind and your body. 

Ephesians 5:18 

Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit.

Debauchery is excessive indulgence in sensual pleasures. Obviously you can smoke pot or drink alcohol without it being excessive. If you need it in small amounts to relax at times that is understandable, but there are other ways to relax. Listening to happy music, writing, baths, walks, watching movies etc. 

Romans 13:13-14 

Let us walk properly as in the daytime, not in orgies and drunkenness, not in sexual immorality and sensuality, not in quarreling and jealousy. But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires.

If you believe in God you are called to be children of the day; awake, alert, productive. Getting high can lead to immoral behaviors like excessive sexual activity or fighting with others. You are not yourself when you are high, so you might do things you would not normally do.  

Galatians 5:19-21 

Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Drugs used to be associated with sorcery and witchcraft. They Can open doors to the demonic realm. A lot of things can, but drugs can especially, because they lower your defenses. Anything goes when you are on drugs and you forget to be careful regarding evil things. 

1 Peter 5:7 

Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

God cares about you. If you can remember that every minute of every day, you won't stress out about anything. If you aren't stressed, then there is no reason to get high, at least no legitimate reason to get high. 

Genesis 1:29 

And God said, “Behold, I have given you every plant yielding seed that is on the face of all the earth, and every tree with seed in its fruit. You shall have them for food.

People use this verse a lot to justify smoking pot. God does say every plant can be consumed by us. All things in moderation is the key here. 

Leviticus 19:1-37 

Do not turn to idols or make for yourselves any gods of cast metal: I am the Lord your God. 

If you make pot an idol, that is the main situation in which it is evil. If pot is your God, that is wrong. Only God should be your God.
