I have thought of this song many times in my life, "All the lonely people, where do they all come from..." Meaning, if you are lonely, where are your parents? Where are your siblings? Sometimes bridges are burned with parents for very good reasons, but what about your siblings? Don't cut ties with everyone in your family. Stay in contact with at least one person from your family.
The movie the Cable Guy made me think of that song. I hadn't seen that movie until yesterday. The poor guy was an only child, which can cause a lot of mental health issues later in life, if the parent doesn't interact with the kid enough.
My first bf Roger was an only child. I think not having siblings did affect him a lot later in life. He was married but then divorced after a few years. When I was with him, he did seem to be hindered in his social skills. In the movie, the main character was desperate for a friend, probably because he didn't grow up with a sibling. I knew a girl in high school who was an only child and she was a bit of a bitch. Kids need siblings. If you have a kid, try to give them siblings.
The guy in the movie also had a neediness problem because he didn't have a hobby. He should have gotten into reading or writing or sports or music etc. We all have to learn how to entertain ourselves, which is why I write in my blog, watch movies, and sometimes I roller blade. :)
I hope you all have a favorite thing that you do to entertain yourself.
God bless!
