On Idolizing Others, One's Self or Emotions

Often times people like to play the victim.  Sometimes people say that others "make them" feel a certain way.  But the fact is, we all chose to feel what we feel.  No one can actually make you feel anything.  Only you can control your own thoughts and feelings.  Things may happen, but how we chose to respond is ultimately our own decision.

Ultimately if others make us mad a lot it is because we are idolizing them.  People should not affect us that much.  Only God should have an ultimate affect on us.  When we idolize others, we let them affect us way more than they should.  Don't let people be your god, let God be your God.

We can also tend to idolize our own feelings.  We can focus way too much on how we feel about something, which is ultimately idolizing ourselves.  If you always only think about how you are feeling, you are your own idol.

Or if you always think about how another person is feeling, they are your idol.  It's good to be sensitive, but our thoughts should remain on God and what he wants, rather than what we want or what others want.

Some people also tend to idolize anger.  They would rather feel angry than depressed, as they might feel otherwise, so they allow themselves to become angry about every little thing.  This is because they are addicted to anger, to the energy that anger gives them.  They have not learned the benefits of peace.  Peace may seem boring, but obviously in the end, it is better.

So don't idolize others by focusing too much on them.  Don't idolize yourself and your own feelings to much.  And don't idolize anger or any other negative emotion too much.  Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus "and the things of this earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace."  Amen.

May God bless ya'll! :)
