My Own Ecclesiastes

Observations on Life

I have seen that those who don't have money are always thinking of how to get money.

And those who have money are always thinking of ways to spend their money.

I have seen people be miserable single, but then be just as miserable in relationships, and be disillusioned that this didn't make them happy like they thought it would.

I have seen people run from thing to thing to make them happy, but nothing works, but they still keep trying, keep looking. They never look clearly at the world to really see it; for if they would they would give up on the world and look to God instead.

I have seen people place their identity in success and achievement, only to become arrogant and unloving and trapped in their own cage of self-expectation and self-criticism.

I have seen religious people, in seeking to follow God, actually do everything God says not to do, by judging, not loving others, and being ungracious.

I have seen people think they will be happy when they attain this one thing, whatever that may be, but when they get it they find that they are still miserable.

And life is a chasing after the wind, as Solomon says. A striving to find that pot of gold at the end of rainbow that no one ever finds. A futile attempt to find purpose and meaning in this life.

Peter and Paul found purpose as we can see in Acts, by sharing the gospel with as many as they could.

But how many others miss the real thing while they are searching among the wrong things?

They think meaning can be found in money, success, relationships, etc.....but it never is.

But what does Solomon conclude? Fear God and keep his commandments.

"The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom."

May we learn to fear God MORE than man. May we seek to please God MORE than we seek to please others.

Because until we do, we will forever be chasing after the wind.
