PMS and Hormones

A Facebook comment from my brother :)

"Wow, I know you can write and enjoy writing, but I feel yet again it's too much to both read and respond to. So I'll pose a short and simple, yet burning question, in response to the fist part about PMS.  What is the best thing men can do for women during this trying time?"

My response:

Regarding PMS in women

Sadly there really is no blanket answer for how to deal with PMS, both for the woman experiencing it or for the poor guy who has to deal with her.

Sometimes the woman most needs time alone. A nap may be best for her.

Or sometimes hugs are the best solution.

Sometimes talking things out helps best.

But sometimes not having to say anything and just watching movies works best.

It's hard to say what will work best in every situation of when a woman is PMS'ing.

PMS causes testosterone and estrogen levels to greatly fluctuate in a woman's body.

Sometimes she will have a surge of testosterone and needs to work out or ride a bike.

And sometimes there is a surge of estrogen, which causes her to badly need a nap.

If the woman is getting a surge of testosterone, which will be seen as a higher energy in her, go for a walk with the poor PMS'ing woman.

If she is getting a surge of estrogen, making her sleepy, she will need more hugs, comfort, and a nap. Women almost always feel better after a good nap.

Estrogen causes women to get more weepy and insecure more easily and depressed; then they need more comfort.

Testosterone causes women to get a bit of a temper and become irritable, in which case they need to be left alone and treated more like a hungry bear and given space.

Depending on which hormone she is getting a surge of will determine what needs to be done.

May God increase all of our wisdom regarding hormones and how they affect people. Amen

(On a side note, if you know of any men who tend to sleep a lot, more than normal, they may need to have their testosterone levels checked. Sometimes it is a thyroid issue but sometimes it is insufficient testosterone which can be brought about by too much stress. It is possible to take a natural hormone of testosterone, in the form of a cream, but make sure it is not the synthetic kind, and that would be the best natural cure. It is better than taking an anti-depressant for example. God bless!)
