My second favorite verse is, "There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love."
In a discussion in college we once explored would you rather be a king that is feared or loved? The king that is feared may attain outward respect by his subjects, but at night when he is sleeping, they may kill him, because their hearts are not loyal to him.
God does not want us to just fear him. We are to fear God, but that is meant to be more of a respect. But he wants us to love him with our whole heart, soul and mind...unashamed, abandoned, completely.
That feeling people feel get when they fall in love, God wants us to feel that for him, and he certainly deserves it more then any created thing. He is holy, completely good and faithful. He never gives up on us. He always loves us, always cares for us, no matter what we do.
The creator of the universe is in love with us! I suppose that would seem absurd to the world or those who do not believe. Why would someone so big care about little us? Just because he does. And praise God that he does.
