Hug Your Baby

A lot of people know that babies need to be hugged to burp them, but it's good to hug them at other times too. Babies need a lot of interaction and affection. I try to always keep my baby where he can see me. I try to never leave him alone for very long.

I remember hearing about something called Ferberizing your baby, meaning let them cry and learn to self sooth. That is just ridiculous. All babies need parents. That is why we are here. Babies cannot self sooth. Either they need a bottle or a diaper or to be rocked to sleep. They don't know how to make themselves happy yet. They are totally dependent on adults. No one can expect a baby to just help itself.

Make sure that you stay attentive to your baby. They almost always need something. It is like working 2 full time jobs to do a good job caring for a baby. If they don't need a bottle, they need a diaper. If it's not that, they need to burp. If it's none of those, they need to be rocked to sleep. They generally cannot fall asleep on their own. It would be great if they could, but they can't.

The better job you do in meeting a baby's needs, the more they will learn to trust the world. If a baby is not helped every time they need help, they will grow up angry or sad.

Make sure to give your baby lots of hugs. It is just as good for you as it is for them. If you have to change your clothes 6 times a day from them spitting up on your shoulder, oh well. It helps you learn to enjoy doing laundry. 😀
