Fear God

I am listening to the song "Thunder" which makes me think of how people have lost a fear of the Lord. Proverbs says, "The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." What does it mean to fear God? Simply it means to respect him. These days it seems that no one respects anyone else. I think that is because we don't respect ourselves. If you don't respect yourself, how can you respect anyone else either? If you don't value yourself, how can you value anyone else? The way that people live shows that they don't fear God.

To an extent it is good to not be afraid of God. You don't want to be too afraid of him to be his friend. You have to feel comfortable around someone to be their friend. God wants to be our friend. If we are on God's good side we don't need to be afraid of him. If we aren't on his good side, then yes, we should be afraid of him.

"Be the best version of you." If you don't want to be afraid of God, be a good person. Be nice to others, even if they aren't nice to you. Do everything that God tells you to do.

Of course, what motivates us to be good people is a fear of God. The reason some people naturally get this and others don't depends on how you felt about your parents. Did you respect your parents? If you did, it will be easy for you to respect God and do what he wants. If you didn't respect your parents, it will be a lot harder for you to feel respect for God. It won't come naturally to you.

The more you fear, or respect, God the better person you will become. Here are great verses about fearing God:

Proverbs 14:27

The fear of the Lord is a fountain of life, that one may turn away from the snares of death.

Psalm 111:10

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding.

Proverbs 1:7

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Proverbs 8:13

The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.

Proverbs 19:23

The fear of the Lord leads to life, and whoever has it rests satisfied; he will not be visited by harm.

Matthew 10:28

Do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.
